MetalX – Most Affordable Metal Printer Available

The Markforged Metal X Printer is the Complete Metal Solution. It is everything you need to go from design to fully functional metal parts in under 24 Hours. The Metal X 3D print system is an end to end manufacturing solution. Based on our 4th generation composite 3D printing technology, the Metal X is a brand new kind of 3D printer. By printing metal powder bound in a plastic matrix, we’ve eliminated the safety risks associated with traditional metal 3D printing while enabling new features like closed-cell infill for reduced part weight and cost.
Features
1) Affordable Metal 3D Printing
The Metal X is up to 10x less expensive than alternative metal additive manufacturing technologies — and up to a 100x less than traditional fabrication technologies like machining or casting.
2) Manufacturing Made Easy
3) ADAM – Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing
4) Materials
Stainless Steel
17-4 stainless steel combines high strength, corrosion resistance, and hardness, making it widely used in aerospace, medical and petroleum industries. We use it for assembly fixtures and tooling on the Mark X.Also known as marine grade stainless steel, 316L stainless steel exhibits very good corrosion resistance and excellent weld-ability
Aluminium 6061 & 7075
As a general purpose aluminum, 6061 combines good machinability, strength, and weldability. It can additionally be anodized with a good finish. We use it for many of the machined components in the Mark X. 7075 Aluminum is one of the strongest aluminum alloys. With good fatigue strength and a high strength-to-weight ratio, this alloy is stronger than common structural steels (A36, 1018). We use it on the kinematic coupling in the bed of the Mark X. It’s also common in aerospace and automotive racing
Tool Steel A-2 & D-2
A-2 tool steel is air-hardened with excellent impact resistance. We use it for punches, dies, and form tooling on the Mark X. The high carbon and chromium content of D-2 tool steel provides great hardness and abrasion resistance (but not as tough as A-2). D-2 is often used for cutting tools.
Inconel IN Alloy 625
Inconel’s strength combined with its impressive heat resistance makes it ideal for heat and pressure shielding applications. This Nickel-based superalloy is commonly used in jet engines and medical applications, and is very hard to machine. It is also very chemically resistant.
Titanium Ti-6Al-4V
Bearing the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any metal, Titanium 6-4 is ideal for lightweight applications and has both high tensile strength and fatigue resistance. This bio-compatible material is widely used in medical applications such as orthopedic joint replacements.
5) Post Processing Equipment
Wash-1 (Automatic Washing Station)
The Wash-1 immerses the green part in a specialized fluid which removes the primary binding material, leaving the part semi-porous so the remaining binder can easily burn off during sintering. This debinding step purifies the final metal part and helps keep your sintering furnace clean.
External Dimensions: 609 mm x 685 mm x 1067 mm
Washing Volume: 18,356 cubic cm
Sinter-1 (Medium Sized Furnace)
The Markforged Sinter-1 is a high performing, high value furnace – it’s affordable, sizable, and reliable. Featuring 4760 cubic cm of working volume, The Sinter-1 effortlessly converts brown (washed) parts into their near fully dense final metallic form. Built on 30 years of Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology, it is ideal for sintering medium sized parts and small batch production.
Furnace Dimensions: 1067 mm x 483 mm x 406 mm
Furnace Volume: 4760 cubic cm
Peak Temperature: 1300° C
Sinter -2 (Large Furnace)
With a huge active hot-zone (22,283 cubic cm), the Sinter-2 fits the full build volume of the Metal X. It’s the perfect solution for larger parts or batch production. This workhorse furnace sinters the full range of commercial grade metals from their green (as-printed) state into fully dense metal parts.
Furnace Dimensions: 1778 mm x 1016 mm x 1270 mm
Furnace Volume: 22,283 cubic cm
Peak Temperature: 1300° C
